- My dear brothers and sisters,
- in the gospel of today
- we are invited to be the light.
- Moji milí bratia a sestry, v dnešnom
- evanjeliu sme počuli a boli sme pozvaní,
- aby sme sa stali svetlom.
- We Christians, our greatest mission
- is to be the light of the world.
- My kresťania, našou hlavnou misiou, našim hlavným
- poslaním je byť svetlom sveta.
- Jesus Christ himself is the light of the world and
- we are invited to imitate him to
- be the light of the world.
- Ježiš Kristus sám je svetlom sveta a my sme

- are sharing the light

- Prakticky hovoriac, byť svetlom znamená, aby
- sme boli viditeľní, tak ako svetlo vyžaruje a
- žiari. A tak aj my pre našich bratov a sestier,
- eh, sestry potrebujeme byť tým viditeľným, žiariacim
- svetlom v každodennom živote.
- To be Christians who are, who are giving, who are
- showing and who are sharing the person of Jesus Christ
- to our fellow brothers and sisters through our
- very daily life.
- Byť takými kresťanmi, ktorí cez naše zdieľanie,
- cez naše slová, cez naše správanie
- ukazujú, kto je Ježiš Kristus. A konáme to v tom
- prostredí našich bratov a sestier.
- But in our daily lives, we ask ourselves today,
- how really can we become a light? How can we arrive
- there to be the shining light of
- Jesus, to be the bright light of Jesus, to be the
- people who are showing, who are giving, who are sharing Jesus Christ
- to our fellow brothers and sisters?
- How in practice, in our daily life?
- No ale naozaj sa tak opýtajme, že v tom každodennom,
- bežnom, obyčajnom živote, ako budeme tým
- žiariacim svetlom, tým viditeľným svetlom pre
- našich bratov a sestry.
- My dear brothers and sisters, we are living in the world

- highly technological and scientific
- world.
- Bratia a sestry, žijeme vo svete, ktorý je,
- eh, veľmi technologicky alebo vedecky

- daily praying of the Holy Rosary, through, eh,
- spiritual pilgrimages, through fasting.
- These are the things which slowly, slowly, they bring
- us to meet Jesus, into contact with Jesus, into
- a lively communion with the person of Jesus Christ.
- Ďalšími prostriedkami sú Eucharistická adorácia,
- Svätý ruženec,
- duchovné púte a, a iné prostriedky,
- ktoré nám pomáhajú stretávať sa s
- Ježišom a vstupovať do osobného vzťahu s ním.
- And in the Church, and particularly in
- the parishes, we have to try our best
- to bring all Christian, all Christian groups to
- Jesus. For example, the children, the
- youth, the mothers, the fathers, the sick,
- the Catholic business people. We have to try our best to
- bring them to Jesus, so that they may encounter Jesus,
- they may meet Jesus, they may have a lively communion
- with the person of Jesus.
- A potom v našej cirkvi, v našich kostoloch, v našich
- farnostiach sa usilujme privádzať aj
- iných ku Ježišovi, ktorý je svetlom sveta.
- Či sú to deti, či sú to starí ľudia, či sú to chorí, či sú
- to, eh, ľudia, ktorí majú na starosti
- rozličné firmy alebo biznisy. Vždy majme na mysli,
- ako môžem týchto ľudí bližšie priviesť k Ježišovi, ktorý
- je svetlom.
- I am coming from Tanzania and through
- ex- through pastoral experience, small Christian
- communities are helping us a lot.
- Pochádzam z krajiny, ktorá sa volá Tanzánia a z mojej
- pastoračnej skúsenosti sú mi nesmierne veľkou
- pomocou malé spoločenstvá.
- Because every week, uh, these small Christian
- communities, according to the
- order which has been prepared, they meet.
- And in every Christian community, we have children, we
- have youth, we have mothers, we have fathers, we
- have sick people, even business people who
- are working in the
- evening, they come to the small Christian
- communities and there we
- meet Jesus. We encounter Jesus. We have a
- lively communion with him, especially through his Holy
- Word. And sometimes also we got the-- we get the opportunity of
- celebrating the Holy Mass in the small Christian communities.
- V takýchto menších alebo malých kresťanských
- spoločenstvách sú dospelí, sú deti, sú starí a
- sú chorí. A keďže tieto malé spoločenstvá často
- žijú vo veľkej vzdialenosti voči hlavnej farnosti,
- kňaz, kedy môže, ku nim príde, slúži
- svätú omšu pre nich, stretáva sa s nimi, ale v týchto kresťanských
- spoločenstvách sa najviac prežíva osobné stretnutie s
- Ježišom.
- And I have come to realize that this is a
- very good way of, uh, bringing people
- to Jesus. People, as I mentioned, different
- Christian groups to come to Jesus,
- so that when we say that we are the light, when we send
- them to be the light of the world to the others,
- really they have Jesus in themselves and they
- go to share Jesus, to give Jesus.
- V týchto kresťanských spoločenstvách sa práve
- navzájom rozpráva o tom, ako prijať Ježiša ako
- svetlo a potom ako ísť znova naspäť k svojim
- rodinám, do sveta a byť svetlom Ježiša pre iných.
- In Latin, there is a, there is a phrase which says
- nemo dat quod non habet. We cannot give what
- we don't have. So when these small Christians
- come together, we are really trying to avoid the
- danger of talking, talking about Jesus, but really we don't
- have Jesus ourselves. We don't have the Jesus to take to the
- people.
- V latinčine je jedno porekadlo, ktoré sa prekladá:
- Nemožno dať, čo nemáme. A to
- znamená, ak my nebudeme mať Ježiša, ako ho budeme môcť dať iným?
- And lastly, I would suggest that we must also have
- what we call a joint, joint efforts
- in our struggle to be the light of the
- world.
- A nakoniec by som rád spomenul dôležitý
- princíp alebo prvok je, že toto je spoločné
- úsilie. Nedá sa takéto niečo konať len osamote.
- I have been here in your diocese, in the, in the, in the
- land of Slovakia almost for two weeks now, and
- I have been so much moved and touched
- by the good things here, the
- spiritual and the pastoral things which are
- in this, uh, in this country.
- Na Slovensku som už takmer dva týždne a
- som nesmierne potešený, vnútorne dotknutý
- krásou vašej krajiny a ľudí.
- I have visited many parishes, and I was so
- happy to see that your parishes are very
- beautiful, very attractive, a lot of sacred holy
- pictures. And not only that, but also people are
- praying and they come to pray as a community.
- They are celebrating the Holy Mass as a community.
- They are adoring Jesus as a community.
- They are praying the Holy Rosary as a community.
- I was so much touched to see that because the church in
- Slovakia is still very alive.
- Navštívil som mnohé farnosti a videl som
- krásne kostoly s krásnou výzdobou, ale to najkrajšie je,
- že kostoly neboli prázdne, ale boli plné ľudí,
- ktorí adorovali Ježiša vo sviatosti
- oltárnej. Modlili sa spoločne ruženec
- alebo iné modlitby, a to bolo pre mňa znakom, že
- cirkev na Slovensku je ešte stále veľmi živá.
- Also, the church groups, the parish groups, as I mentioned,
- the children, the youth, the choir, the
- mothers, the fathers, they, they, they, they
- come, they have that chance of coming to the
- parish and
- they meet Jesus. They come into contact with Jesus,
- into lively communion with Jesus.
- I found it here and I witnessed with my own eyes
- during my stay here.
- A tiež som videl, ako deti sa stretávajú, mládež,
- dospelí, otcovia, matky. A je to práve
- v takýchto stretávaniach, kde sa naozaj
- každý môže stretnúť s Ježišom.
- And in practice, this is our way of being the light,
- the shining light of Jesus Christ, the bright light of Jesus
- Christ. We can send these young children, young
- people, the mothers, the fathers, the Christians of a
- given parish and say, "Go and talk. Take-- talk about Jesus.
- Take Jesus to that parish. It seems to be a very cold
- parish, but now we have Jesus and we go to take to,
- to, to, to, to share Jesus with them."
- A tak naozaj prakticky hovoriac, byť súčasťou
- takýchto spoločenstiev môže
- pripraviť jednotlivých členov na tú dôležitú úlohu, že
- tu na tomto mieste, kde sme alebo v tejto farnosti alebo v
- tomto meste,
- ľudia vyzerajú akosi chladnejší, a tak prinesme im Ježiša.
- Poďme ku nim.
- That's why I am talking about joining efforts.
- I have seen that here in Slovakia there are so
- many spiritual, many gospel church things
- which are being done to help the Christians to be
- lively lights. And in Tanzania also.
- So we have to join the efforts. Sometimes also the
- Christians from Slovakia, the children, the
- youth, the adult,
- missionary groups come to Tanzania also to see what we are
- doing because we are also struggling with you so that we
- may share one another and reinforce our
- force, our strength.
- Preto som aj hovoril o spoločnom úsilí, ktoré sa deje
- nielen individuálne v našich krajinách.
- Pre vás tu na Slovensku, u nás v Tanzánii, ale takéto
- spoločné úsilie existuje aj krížom cez hranice alebo
- cez kontinenty, že misijné skupiny zo
- Slovenska prídu ku nám, aby videli, s čím my zápasíme,
- s čím sa my stretávame a takto si vedeli aj
- navzájom pomôcť.
- We have to work together and we have to know that we have
- got an enemy. We have the
- power of
- enemy of darkness is around us. The
- darkness is struggling to take place and we want to be the
- light. We have to give
- Jesus Christ to the people and not darkness.
- So joining powers, joining efforts, we
- can do, I believe we can do a lot of good things.
- Pracujme spoločne, pomáhajme si
- navzájom. Tým, že sme povolaní byť svetlom, nám
- zároveň poukazuje, že existuje aj nepriateľ.
- A je to duch temnoty, ktorý tiež sa snaží rozšíriť
- svoje pôsobenie, a preto nás Ježiš volá, aby sme
- boli svetlom sveta a nedovolili tomuto nepriateľovi
- robiť si svoju prácu.
- So I congratulate the Church of Slovakia
- for the good things which are found here, spiritual things,
- for the efforts which you are doing to meet
- Jesus, to be in contact, to be in communion with Jesus Christ.
- Because we don't have another
- salvation, we don't have another security in the
- world which we
- are living today without Jesus. Jesus is our
- first security.
- Preto chcem zagratulovať cirkvi na Slovensku,
- že sa celými svojimi prostriedkami
- snaží, aby Ježiš bol tou najdôležitejšou
- základňou, najdôležitejším základom pre jej
- život aj život jednotlivých veriacich, lebo niet
- spásy mimo Ježiša. Ježiš je vždy pre každého z
- nás tým najdôležitejším základom.
- And in Tanzania we are doing the same thing.
- We are really struggling to be the light, to
- give Jesus to the people. That's why I am inviting you
- that we join efforts. I invite you now and
- again when you have time, you come as missionaries,
- missionaries who are
- bearing the power of Jesus, the gifts of Jesus.
- And when you come, you share with us and we share also
- with you what we have in Africa, in our own culture.
- Tak aj my v Tanzánii sa snažíme byť takýmto svetlom a ja vás
- srdečne pozývam, aby ste prišli ku nám, a tak sme
- spoločne zdieľali ako misionári svetlo Pána
- Ježiša.
